How do I make a tutoring appointment?

Appointments can be made by going to http://my.jhu.eduand clicking on the Education icon, which will lead you to the Learning Den icon. Students are automatically logged into the online scheduler and can search for appointments. Students having issues with their login should contact tutoring@jhu.edu.

When are tutoring services available?

Tutoring sessions being the second full week of classes and run through the last week of classes with the exception of university holidays. Sessions are available from Sunday through Thursday from 5-11 p.m. The full schedule can be found on the Learning Den Tutoring website. Students are encouraged to make appointments especially during exam periods. Sessions will allow walk-ins if they are not full.

What if I don’t see the course for which I want tutoring?

If you don’t see the course for which you want tutoring, that may mean we don’t have a tutor for that course. However, our office can assist you with finding additional support. Please email tutoring@jhu.eduwith the following information: your name, email, program, and the course name and number.

What do tutors do?

Tutors primarily assist students with reviewing and strengthening of content material knowledge, helping with homework-like problems, exam preparation and strengthening study skills. Tutors are not trained to teach class material, so be sure to come prepared, having attended class, reviewed your notes, and taken steps to study the material.

How long are the appointments?

Tutoring sessions are 1.5 – 2 hours depending on the subject.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Tutors can be the most helpful to you if you come prepared. You should bring your notes from class, worksheets, textbooks, review books, and any questions you want to go over with the tutor. The session is only beneficial if you come prepared.

Where do I meet my tutor?

All tutoring sessions take place in Gilman Hall. All students should first check-in at the Learning Den desk on the left side of The Hut (just past the Gilman Atrium).

What if I need to cancel an appointment or I’m running late?

Student should log into Tutor Trac to cancel their appointment. Students that do not cancel their appointments will receive a “no-show. More than three cancellations will result in a hold being placed on your account and allow only “walk-in” access to tutoring sessions. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we will assume you are not coming.
